Mini Photojournal

Despite the fact that I’m dying to write a new post, I thought of putting up something similar to what Photojournalists does.
Inspired by Shehan’s post Odds and Ends, I had a look at my Flickr page and randomly selected some good ones, recalled the story behind each and put up a post with some spices.
So here it starts…

Spidy

Spidy

Nowadays, even a poor spider can’t live without being exposed by paparazzi. These cameras and paparazzi are everywhere!

The photo was taken in an entrance to a restaurant of which I can’t remember the name on our way back home from a friend’s wedding.
The Spidy’s web was on an (hanging) ornament which I luckily observed in the dark night.

Bond of Love

Bond of Love

“Love is a serious mental disease” - Plato. Truely it’s a deciece that everybody loves. It does wonderful things to your life. Don’t you think so?
This was in the Convocation of IDM (Mar ‘0 8) It’s me and My girlfriend. It was taken by my best friend Ranuka; many thanks for him too.

White Trails

White Trails

Blinding while strips; Sharp and razor straight.
Photoshop effect? nah! It’s natural; Straight from camera! Increase the Shutter Speed and this is what you get (Shutter Priority Mode). By the way, did you guess why white strips? It’s a Bus that passed us at a considerable speed.

Reflecting Pond

Reflecting Pond

“Reflect on your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” - Charles Dickens
This was taken inside Bentota Beach Hotel. I wish I had a SLR Cam with a wide angle lens, but still I love my camera and this shot anyway.

From Worlds End - Horton Plains

“Mountains are earth’s undecaying monuments.” - Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 - 1864)
Once upon a time, 3 Friends went on a trip to Horton Plains, a paradise located in Sri Lanka. They had a great time and brought home some charming memories. This picture is one of them.
The 3 friends are Shehan, Ranuka and I.

SpeeDS Fiesta – A story of 3 Laps

Event: Pro-Kart knock-out competition

Laps: 3

From Wikipedia

Have you raced before?” one of the organizers asked just before the race’s about to start. “No!” I said with a little fear. I have never seen a ProKart in close proximity, before today. Though I can drive a car carefully, I’m not a pro-driver. But I think, when it comes to ProKart racing, general vehicle driving skills doesn’t matter.

My opponent is a Girl. Oh, Wait, no! Competing with her is NOT a piece of cake. You know why? Because, she already is an experienced ProKart driver and she has come to win. Well yes, I came to win too. But there’re always differences in objectives, in between an experienced racer and a novice. There is a team participating from SriLankan Air Lines. Yeah! Your guess is correct! She’s the only female racer from the 4 member team.

I saw how one of them raced with one of my friends’ just minutes ago. Oh. No comments needed! So I was a little nervous. “What the heck! I should just go and hit the damn peddle! There’s nothing to worry! I just came to have fun. Not to be fear of losing!” Thinking like that was a good relief to me, seconds before the race.

Right pedal is the Accelerate Pedal. Left is the Brake Pedal. Ok? Accelerate from Right! Brake from Left! Clear?” asked the same man who asked me the first question. I gave a small nod to him as it’s one of the most obvious things in the world and I didn’t want to be that novice.

The green Flag waved and I just hit my right Pedal with a spit of a second. 1 2 3 and 4 seconds gone, my opponents Kart on to the right hand side is speeding constantly and it has overtaken me. I was amazed how it happened. I thought both Kart should perform the same way. But it isn’t. For a second I thought could it be because she’s experienced than me? But it can’t happen. By then, we’ve got the first slight turn to right. The next right turn is just about to come which is the sharpest and riskiest as I looked at the left pedal. I’m touching it a bit. Then I realized the cause of the performance flaw. The brake pedal is such sensitive that it only needs a small touch to slow down the Kart . The next second, I got my foot off it completely and whoosh… for a second, I remembered how my Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution drags when I inject some N2O (Nitrous Oxide) in EA’s latest PC game NFS Pro Street. And not a moment later, I realized if I continue in this speed, either I hit the front Kart or I hit the tire wall (Many people hit there as a result of unnecessary speeding).

The ideal thing you do is apply some brakes as you turn. That was the first and final wrong thing I did to lose the race. In these Karts, It completely locks the wheels as you brake. You should never hit the brake as you turn. Of course, it’s very helpful when you need a 180 degrees turn just to show-off as you win a race. Well, I can’t complain brakes either, as just minutes before a friend told me never to touch the brake. He said it’s not needed, you can drive only using accelerator. But I just did what a normal driver do, forgetting a golden tip from a person who raced before me.

2 seconds passed, I was facing the opposite way as a result of the brake. I was frustrated. I take the next 5-6 seconds to get the Kart to correct way (180 degrees turn again). It was just enough for her to give me half a lap lead. The only thing I did after that was try shorten the lead as much as possible. I think the lead never got shorter or longer. Maybe she mastered the lap and speeded up and my speeding wasn’t enough to get close. In my lap timing, I think there was a major improvement in every lap. Eventually, the race ended. All in all, congrats to my opponent, nice racing! But beware, next time, I will try my best to stay in track and give a good competition.

Technically she won and clearly I lost. But it’s no big deal. I did learn many things about ProKart / Gokarts , racing and its techniques. That’s un-measurable. Anyway, it’s so bad that people like us do not have any place to go and race. The only facility that I heard in Millennium Park (currently Excel World) had been stopped due to unknown reason. I suggest the people who are able to run a ProKart racing facility, to open up a place and provide opportunities for enthusiast like us.

To conclude, I convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of D. S. Senanayake College OBA (Old Boys Association) and all who made such a successful and great event in very bad weather conditions. Guys! The way you dried up the track and organized everything in crisis situations is promising! Keep up the spirit and we always look forward to help and participate to similar future events.

One thing for sure, “It is always a pleasure and proud of being a DS Boy!”

7 random facts about myself

[#1] Music is my Life

As my parents are and ancestors were in music industry, my ideal profession and my never changing will is in Music. I find answer to every question and cure for every problem in Music than any other. It drives me, it cures me and it improves me.

[#2] Country and people that I admire

I have heard some people saying India is an ugly place to live, this and that. I have never been to India, but all I know is that, it has a great Culture, great People, Worlds Greatest Arts (Music, Dancing, Cinema and etc) and the list will go on and on.

[#3] Keep things Clear and Simple

I do like to keep every problem and question clear and simple, though some are more complex and dangerous. I think it’s one of my good attitude even some may say it’s not.

[#4] Bad Temper

I tend to loose my temper, in most cases Unnoticeable to people. Because I pretend to be normal in situations and trying to keep things cool.

[#5] I’m Not a Blind Believer

It is my unintended behavior that I don’t believe in things just because they are believed by others. I think that’s why I’m spontaneously a Buddhist rather than becoming a good old worshiper calling oneself a Buddhist.

[#6] Long time No Dreams and Short Term Dream Memory Loss

I hardly dream when sleeping though thousands of day dreams are there. Do not know why, but even if I see one, I surely forget that when I wake up.

[#7] All-Rounder

I’ve got inter-school all island awards for Kandiyan Dancing representing my school dancing group. Even though I devoted most of my time on that, I did Western Music as the Arts subject for GCE O/Ls and I’ve got awards for Singing. well, not in national awards ceremonies. Even though my family background drives toward Music, I’m an IT graduate working in a successful IT company. After all, this post sounds that I’m an Asian classical person who loves Indian music and very calm, groups like SOAD (System Of A Down) are there in my personal top 100 hit list.

The relativity of an ultimate feeling

Kings, Queens, Presidents, Ministers, High ranking officers, CEOs, Managers, Engineers, Executives Regular office workers, Clerks, Janitors, unemployed bachelors and simply, any animal that has a brain functioning correctly; have a diverse range of expectation(s) of there Lives.

Why I listed a bunch of designations, is to stress out the point that all of us are having the same kind of needs from our lives regardless of the status, wealth, prestige, or any other issue. Think of a President whose responsibility is to take decisions that would take a country to a better state. Think again, of a Gatekeeper who is doing his repetitive job everyday. Now can you think of a difference on these two human beings? Yes that’s simple. Both are in two different extremes where president is the top most civilian in a country and the gatekeeper is just a 1 in thousands of normal workers. But both have a common feeling. That is “Expectation”.

I have heard people say “Hey, see that guy. He is a millionaire. But he’s just useless and has no life. He doesn’t enjoy as much as we do. Because, you know? He’s not like us. We do know people, be with friends, party and spend time with all of the guys. But just look at him! He doesn’t know anyone, hasn’t got friends, no parties and no nothing men”. Well that would be what you see from outside. Maybe he would be enjoying his work, more than we do. Maybe he would be having fun with people that he’s dealing with, more than we do. Maybe he’s a happier man than any other.

All this is because he has achieved what he really need. His expectations are accomplished. It is impossible to judge a person by his external outfit or behavior. Never judge people for no reason, unless your profession is to recruit personnel to an organization.

The lesson of the day is to;

  • Have expectation in life
  • Plan how to fulfill them
  • Happy when you are successful
  • Never be jealous of people because of
    • They have met their expectations
    • For not being able to meets your expectations

Expectations cannot be compared. Don’t apply theory of relativity to this. So think again, without wasting your precious time of reviewing, commenting, and researching on other’s pros and cons. Remember that you are given two eyes to look at anything in multiple views. Because a thing that is good for you isn’t be the same for another.
